The bullet flew through the air and struck Orpos in the chest.
The great Elemental collapsed, the floor reverberating with the weight of the fall. What happened next seemed to happen in slow motion for Exalndria. Firstly, she registered what Jared looked like - a tall, well-built, male human with short brown hair, wearing a Hunter's Soldier's uniform and holding what appeared to be the hilt of a sword with a pistol coming out of it. Then she heard Fam scream: Aiylier and Daiylier's blades freezing as they were brought down upon the leader of the League of Hunters. Kyko responded by bringing up his weapon which had transformed into a blade of fire.
The twin blades melted when they touched the fire and Fam jumped back. Two words later and the blades were double their normal length and made of water. She lashed out at Jared again and the swords extinguished the flames. The fighter's eyes met and Jared smiled, pressing a button - sending a few thousand volts through Aiylier and Daiylier and Fam. The water nymph dropped her weapons and fell to the ground.
Kyko held his weapon over Fam and it transformed into a metal blade. He sneered and brought the blade down...
"Now!" shouted Fam, rolling out of the way.
A flurry of bullets flew towards Kyko and his weapon transformed yet again - this time into an earthen shield. Gedrick and INFOS kept firing and the force of their shots pushed the League of Hunter's leader backwards.
"Stop!" Fam jumped up as the bullets stopped flying and struck down with the, frozen, twin blades. There was a flash of light and Fam was pushed back before her weapons made contact. By the time the Elementals could see again, Jared was gone.
"Where did he go?!" exclaimed Fam, "I wasn't finished with him!"
"He is no longer in The Hunter's Rock... which is unfortunate as I was quite enjoying that..." replied INFOS.
"Fam!" cried Exalndria, who was examining Orpos's wound after rolling him over, "Look."
The skin around the bullet wound had turned dark and was leaking thick, black blood. Fam knelt down before glancing at INFOS "Please can you complete a scan of the wounded area."
"Of course... and thank you for saying please..." replied INFOS, floating over to the wounded oni.
"Just get on with it INFOS," replied Fam.
"What happened to please?..."
"INFOS..." threatened Exalndria.
"Scan complete... are you happy now?..."
"Read out the results."
"Target has been shot with a 9mm bullet infused with the poisonous Nightfall serum. Health advice: the bullet has not pierced any crucial organs but the Nightfall serum will kill the target after an approximate five days without medical assistance. The advised medical assistance is an antidote concocted from the rare Dawnbringer plant that flowers in the Light Section. In addition a combination of Light Energy and Berserker Energy might slow the serum's progress."
"We need to get him back to the HQ," said Exalndria "Help me get him up."
Fam, looked to where Jared had disappeared, "But what about Jared? The missions not complete... and," she continued bitterly "Neither is mine."
Gedrick placed his hand on Fam's shoulder "He's gone Fam. But Orpos is not, not yet anyway. We have to get him back to HQ, report the matter and then get this Dawnbringer plant."
Fam nodded and went over to Orpos, picking up one arm while Exalndria picked up the other. INFOS propped up his back and, together, the team walked out of The Hunter's Rock. When they reached the Chevron they were met with a dilemma.
"I'm afraid that Orpos can't fit in Chevron with me to fly it," said Exalndria.
"Well we can't carry him all the way back," replied Gedrick.
"What are we going to do then!?" exclaimed Fam "We need to get him back quickly!"
"I could fly it from the outside," responded INFOS.
Exalndria thought for a moment before nodding "He's right."
Fam nodded as well, "Well then, help me get Orpos into the cockpit."
A minute later and the oni was in the cockpit with INFOS attached to the Chevron through the control interface.
"Get him to the Light division of the hospital with this message," she inputted a few lines of code into INFOS's memory system, "And be quick about it."
"Of course, milady," replied the robot. Then he started the Chevron's jets and flew off in the direction of the HQ.
Exalndria looked around at the rest of the team before saying "Let's go," and setting off.
